Australia’s captain Sam Kerr may have been ruled out of this summer’s Olympic Games in Paris after failing to recover from an enduring knee injury, but that hasn’t kept her out of the headlines with a teasing viral video with Chelsea.
Few players can excite a crowd quite like Matildas talisman Sam Kerr. The Australian forward is arguably, one of the best footballers on the planet, able to turn the tide of a game in an instant with a rare piece of magic.
For fans however, it’s been a while since Kerr has lit up the pitch with her signature swagger since suffering a devastating ACL injury in 2023 – something that has become a common issue within the world of women’s football. Kerr has undergone surgery to fix the problem, but won’t likely make her expected return in time for the Paris games that kick off next month.
It’s meant that the Aussie star has spent more time with her club Chelsea in the Women’s Super League as she continues her rehabilitation.
Kerr’s progress is paramount to the WSL champions as they look to build upon yet another stellar campaign in the top flight of English football, and although Kerr was unable to influence matters on the pitch this season, a recent viral video has shown just how important the Australian is to this team, committing her future to the club for another two years.

“To the fans, just remember that I’ll always be Chelsea. When I joined this place, everything felt alienated to me, but now, this place feels like home.”
Chelsea fans were quick to speculate what Kerr’s video meant, with messages of support and surprise flooding in for their favourite forward. Until, just 20 minutes later, it was confirmed that Sam Kerr had committed her future to Chelsea by signing a new contract until 2026… a relief for Chelsea’s frenzied fanbase.
